The 1 and 2 stage countertop purifiers supplied by Forever Pure Water contain activated carbon filters which are widely used for home water treatment, especially where water is insufficiently treated by municipalities and other water suppliers. These carbon filters remove unwanted odours and tastes from water, including chlorine.
Granular activated carbon filters are very effective at removing gases and many chemicals from water. However, they are less successful at filtering out micro-organisms. They are also not capable of protecting water against dissolved solids, hardness or heavy metals.
Carbon filters can be installed under sinks, on counters, or be mounted at the end of a faucet. Sediment filters should be replaced every 6-12 months, depending on the type and amount of sediment being filtered.
Countertop filters can be fitted with KDF carbon filters which are the better option because these filters remove heavy metals such as lead, mercury and cadmium from water. Tests indicate that KDF filters can filter up to 30 000 litres of water before they need to be replaced.
