Our UV water sterilizer units treats from 300 – 18 000 liters of water per hour. In each UV unit a low-pressure mercury arc lamp produces ultraviolet light, which has germicidal properties. Its radiation destroys or deactivates pathogens. Bacteria are killed with relatively low amounts of radiation, while viruses are more resistant. Cysts and worms remain unaffected.
The lamp’s efficiency decreases over time and must be replaced annually. Colour, turbidity and organic impurities in the water also interfere with the transmission of ultraviolet energy and may reduce the efficiency of a unit. Also, radiation leaves no residual product in the water that continues to disinfect beyond the actual treatment period.
